taieri bore pipe line CONNECTION WITH MAIN RACE Approval was given at the meeting of the City Council last night to the proposal • of the Water Committee to lay a main of 152 chains to take the water pumped from the Taieri bore to the Silverstream race, prior to the installation of the deep well pumping equipment from England. Presenting his committee’s report, Cr N. D. Anderson said he felt confident, that the results would be satisfactory. Cr Jolly: Tt seems a little like putting the cart before the horse, laying these pipes before we know if we have the water to fill them. Cr Hayward: The same thought occurred to mb. Can the chairman say how long it will take to test the flow, and also how long it will take to lay the pipes? Cr Anderson: The committee is guided in this matter by the engineer and by Mr G. Stewart, who says he can almost guarantee 750,000 gallons The flow might reach 1,000,000 gallons. So far as the pipe line was concerned, the chairman continued, it should not more than three months to lay it. Those present at the meeting were the Mayor, Sir Donald Cameron, and Crs E. J. Anderson. N. D. Anderson, Wright, Hayward, Jolly, Barnes, Sidey, Armitage. Smith and Taverner.
