■ MONEY BIRD’S HURDLES As on the first day, the winner of the hurdle event came from A. E. Didhams stable at Wingatui, Money Bird winning from Sal's Pal, who may get a wit! over lumps before long. Mount Nimrod and Dark Warrior lost their chances at the ■ first fence, and Avignon refused at the stand jump. Bonne Nuit and Sal s Pal were the first to show out, followed by ! Martial Note, Air Lord, Hansel ; , Money Bird. Down the back Money Bird • and Air Lord were showing the way to : Sal’s Pal. MR MICAWBER GAIN Mr Micawber just gathered Dark Chief ’in short of the post in the Sbuthl vrn Hack Handicap, but his performance was a really good one as he did not hit out quickly and had difficulty in getting a clear run until a furlong from home Philip Laing began best, and made die early running from Orthodox, Oronoko. and Double Deck. Setting a smart pace, Philip Laing was first into the straight from Orthodox, Double Deck,' Repudiate, Oronoko, Dark Chief, and Mr Micawber Running past the distance Dark Chief, on the outside, was in front, but Mr Mica vber got clear and finished brilliantly for the narrowest of wins. Philip Laing hung on for thirds’from Exchange, and then came Oronoko and Double Deck. WAI-ITI TROT HANDICAP Blue Signal was made favourite for the Wai-iti Trot, and was prominent throughout, but was beaten by Young Atlas. As the field paced through the straight Union Jack ’ was leading from- Agnes d’Oro, Young Atlas, Blue Signal, Direct Power, and Dowry. Moving up after passing the mile post, Blue Signal took up the running from Young Atlas. Direct Pc ver, Bedelia, Union Jack, Agnes d’Oro, and Dowry. On the bend into the straight Young Atlas went up to Blue Signal and beat him in the run home by halif a length. Direct Power was third, and was - followed by Dowry, Bedelia, and Sitting Pretty. CRAIGMORE STEEPLES Thirteen jumpers went to the post for the Craigmore Steeples, but only si- of them got round the course. Cloister never put a foot wrong, and won well by four lengths from Glad Fox. Bridgehead ran off early, in the race. Maize and Dark Game led early from Ring
