CRICKET COACH FUND
YOUTHFUL BENEFACTORS SCHOOLBOYS HOLD BAZAAR If everyone were imbued with the same determination as a group of John McGlashan schoolboys Dunedin would soon have its cricket coach. On Saturday, after four or five weeks of preparation, the boys held a carnivalbazaar, as a result of which the cricket coach fund will benefit to the extent of £ll 10s. The boys concerned were Brian and Blair Robertson, David Groves, Tony Macalister, Peter Adam son and Brian Simon, all of McGlashan, and they were ably assisted by David Forsythe. The Robertson boys commandeered .their father’s garage at 710 Highgate for the purpose, the supervising organiser being Brian Robertson. Over the past weeks the boys have been busy collecting all manner of saleable articles such as comics and stamps. Some of the boys’ parents made a few cakes to give variety and to attract the adult passers-by. The garage was decorated for the occasion. When the doors opened for business on Saturday there proved to be no dearth of customers. On the front lawn competitive games were played, and these, too, helped to swell the funds. The spirit of community help runs high among the children of this district. Recently, Gillian Robertson, the seven-year-old sister of Brian and Blair, with the assistance of the woman next door, made a number of posies, and installing a table at the gate, sold them to passers-by. When the posies were all gone the vegetable garden was raided and some of its contents were offered for sale. The effort produced 325. which the little girl took to town and handed over to the chairman of the Crippled Children Society.
