DEATH OF LORD LEVERHULME IN UNITED STATES

The death occurred in hospital at Minneapolis of Lord Leverhulme, Governor of the board of directors of Lever Brothers and Unilever Ltd., the well-known soap manufacturing firm of Great Britain. , ~ Last month Lord Leverhulme paid a visit to New Zealand and left by the Aorangi at'the beginning of this month on his return to Britain via Canada and the United States. He was accompanied by Lady Leverhulme 'and his daughter, Miss Jill Leverhulme. Lord Leverhulme was the only son of the first Viscount Leverhulme, who died in 1925, and had held many important offices in public, commercial, and educational bodies. A deputy lieutenant of Cheshire, and a former High Sheriff, he was charter mayor in 1937 of the newly-incorporated borough of Bebington. in which Port Sunlight is situated, and is its first honorary freeman. Lord Leverhulme was educated at Eton College and at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he graduated M.A. In 1931-34 he was president of the London Chamber of Commerce.
