LED ALL THE WAY

FIRST ACT’S BOLD DISPLAY

Special to the Daily Times AUCKLAND, May 29.

,On the strength of his dashing victory in the Frankton Steeplechase on the first day, First Act was made an each-way favourite for the King Country Steeplechase, and he duly won. First Act gave another bold display of jumping, and led all the way. He was out 10 lengths at the end of the first round, and although he lost some ground by swinging wide at the brush leading out of the straight he was still several lengths clear turning along the back from Hazsoult, Flying Attack, and Red Glare, who were in close company. Red Glare ran off at the sod wall near the half-mile, and in the meantime First Act continued to jump quickly. Approaching the second to last fence First Act was still going freely in front, while Hazsoult and Flying Attack were being urged in an endeavour to overtake him. The result was never in doubt in the straight, First Act jumping the last fence boldly to score by six lengths from Hazsoult. Flying Attack was another five lengths away third, and Murphy was a moderate fourth, followed at intervals by Abaris and Aratore. Broiefort Prince dropped out of the contest about a mile from home. None of the placed horses is engaged in the Great Northern Steeplechase.
