SOUTH CANTERBURY CHICK PRODUCERS' ASSOCIATION. At a Meeting of Poultry Producers held in Timaru on Tuesday Evening it was decided to form the South Canterbury Chick Producers' Association. This move was the consequence of prior discussions among chick producers who for some time Have been deeply concerned at the ever rising costs of feedstuffs and other essentials and desire to see that only quality chicks are placed on the market. Membership is confined to producers of Day-old Chicks for Sale, and members are expected to abide by the objects of the Association, which are as follows: ments. 1. To arrive at and abide by price agreements. 2. To improve and maintain quality of breeding stock. 3. To encourage the production of a high quality chick. 4. To effect reductions in costs by cooperative purchasing. A nominal Membership Fee of 2s 6d was agreed to. There was a long discussion on increased costs. Costs of living, wages, equipment, chick foods have all increased in cost and a most important effect oh costs has been the removal of the subsidies on- wheat and mash. To offset this, partly it was agreed that there should be an increase in Day-old Chick Prices this season and that the new minimum prices should be advertised. Mr Gosling, Pleasant Point, stated that, the new association would benefit the producers by ensuring that a fair return was obtained for their product and would protect purchasers to some extent from receiving inferior stock, a common result of price-cutting. Mr D. Lloyd, Timaru, was elected Chairman and Mr M. Young, Waimate. Secretary. \_ WARNING TO STOREKEEPERS, BOTTLERS AND OTHER USERS OF BOTTLES.
