Deputation to County Council
Yesterday morning a deputation comprising Messrs J. C. Kirknes s (chairman). T. Mitchell and B. B. Walton, of the North Otago War Memorial Committee, waited on the Waitaki County Council to solicit a contribution to the war memorial fund. The deputation reported on the. adoption of the proposal for a Garden of Memories at the corner of Itchen and Severn streets. The appeal was for £6OOO, and it was hoped to raise £IOOO from the local bodies and another £IOOO from the larger industrial and business oreanisations. the chairman, Mr J. S. Adams,- assured the deputation that the council would deal sympathetically with the appeal. In a brief discussion it was pointed out by councillors that in the county ratepayers had already subscribed to district memorials. Councillors, however, were favourably disposed towards the appeal, and it was decided ,to hold the matter over for consideration with the estimates.
