Chairman’s Annual Review Mr J. S. Adams, chairman of the Waitaki County Council, in his annual re« view presented yesterday on the council’s operations for the year, stated that receipts in all accounts totalled £63,475, and expenditure £57,980. The general account started with a credit balance of £3489. and ended with a credit balance of £1914. Advantage was taken of the expenditure on main highways falling below the estimate to increase the expenditure on maintenance gravelling on county roads. The plant renewal account, Mr Adams said, showed a credit balance of £8995, but most of this would be' absorbed by the two graders to be purchased in the coming year and ths .payment on account of the grader on hire-purchase from the Main Highways Board. Delivery had been taken of one grader, and another was to arrive in the next few weeks, which would bring the council's grader fleet back to pre-war strength. Delivery of the crusher is still awaited. All items of plant have been maintained in good mechanical condition in the council’s workshop. Contracts have been signed for the sealing of about six miles of the Waiareka-Ngapara-Duntroon main highway and about five miles of the main highway near Kurow. Plans and specifications had been prepared for sealing 70 chains of the Hillgrove-Moeraki main highway, and it was hoped to call tenders for sealing this year. During the yiar 17,592 cubic yards of maintenance ‘gravel were spread on county roads. At Kurow the town water supply had been fully utilised. An extensive investigation had been made and plans prepared for a new source of supply for this town. Mr Adams concluded by thanking the staff for their loyal cooperation during the past year. The chairman was thanked for his report, which was adopted.
