VISIT TO DUNEDIN
BISHOP OF CHICHESTER , , COUNCIL OF CHURCHES MEETING It was reported at the meeting of the Otago branch of the National Council of Churches yesterday that the Bishop of Chichester, prominent leader of the Ecumenical movement and a representative of the Church of England at the Amsterdam Conference of the World Council of Churches, will visit Dunedin on October 6 and 7. He will address a public meeting in the city. A report was received concerning the arrival in Dunedin last week of a number of immigrants from the Atlantis, a representative of the council having been present to meet them.: It was pointed out that all churches in Dunedin had been notified to give a welcome to members of their own denominations whose names had been received through the Government. Archdeacon J. H. Young had been appointed by the council to meet parties of immigrants. He would meet the Dundalk Bay in Australia. Permission had been granted the comcil to send £IO,OOO in cash to Europe during the year for reconstruction work of the churches in Europe.. Mr Colin Morrison. Dominion secretary of the Council of Organisations for'Relief Services Overseas, will speak in Dunedin on Tuesday, June 21. Mr Morrison, it was reported, had just returned from a visit to China, where he had met Mr Rewi Alley.
