CONFERENCE ENDED
THE LABOUR PARTY CONSCRIPTION MAIN ISSUE Special Correspondent WELLINGTON. May 26. The thirty-third annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party ended to-day, when full confidence in the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, and his parliamentary party was pledged. The debate on conscription completely overshadowed all other considerations, and .this year very little constructive policy was determined. Labour at the polls will be concerned chiefly to hold what it has, and, judging by the ministerial approach to conference queries, the attitude taken at this stage is largely defensive. Apart from conscription, the most important debate was that on the report of Mr Nash on 1 the credit control policy and social security* Statements made by Mr Nash give ground for the belief that important adjustments to social security benefits may- be expected before long.
