HOUSING “RACKET”
ALLOCATION OF STATE UNITS “One of the biggest rackets in New Zealand,” was how a member of the 2nd NZEF Association described the method of allocating State houses in New Zealand. He was speaking at a special meeting of the Dunedin branch last night. “That the Australian system of allocating State houses be adopted and that priority lists be open to public inspection,” was a remit framed at the meeting. It will be sent forward to the annual conference of the 2nd NZEF Association in Wellington in July. Mr N. Simmonds suggested that those with money were obtaining houses while former servicemen were still living in deplorable conditions. The remit, which was moved by Mr G. Barclay, was carried unanimously by the 40 members present.
