CONVINCING WIN
MAORIS IN CANBERRA CAPITAL TERRITORY TEAM OUTCLASSED NZF A—Copyright Rec. 11.20 p.m. CANBERRA, May 25. The touring Maori Rugby team outclassed the Australian Capital Territory to-day, winning by 47 points to 3. The Maoris dominated play throughout, scoring 10 tries. The scoring was slow for the first 20 minutes through quick breaking by the Territory forwards, but there followed an orgy of try-scoring, and brilliant passing movements. The Maoris are rapidly reaching the condition of being capable of seeing out a fast game. They realise the need for this for Saturday’s matcn against New South Wales, at Sydney. To-day they played all-out football, giving nothing away and revealing strength in defence. The half-back, L. Raureti- described as a “flashing meteor,” gave a bright display and was always on the ball. C. Stirling gave the Maoris an overwhelming advantage in the line outs, and the pack won the scrums easily. The team tired towards the end of the game, but was satisfied with its performance. The team was tendered a reception by the Commonwealth Government tonight.
