AMERICAN GOVERNMENT TO RETRENCH WORKERS
Rec. 9.10 p.m. WASHINGTON, May 10. Ten thousand naval shipyard workers will be retrenched to enable the navy to stay within its budget during the next financial year. Reduced funds, higher construction costs, and wage increases granted in the past year are contributing factors. The x’etrenchment programme was the second announced by a Government agency within a week. The Veterans’ Administration is retrenching 8000 employees and closing 42 branch offices in 23 States.
