Outstanding Effort By King’s Ransom at Auckland Meeting

The good stayer, King’s Ransom, was responsible for a grand performance when he won the H. O. Nolan. Handicap, the principal event on the second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting at Ellerslie to-day. King’s Ransom carried 9.11, and in'-a hard finish won by a nose from Lord Revel. He ran the mile and a-half in the good time of 2min 31 3-ssec, which was a good gallop considering that the track was inclined to cut up on the surface. The first and second horses beat the others decisively, and Earldale was three lengths away third. ~ _. , , The champion three-year-old, Tauloch, further distinguished himself when he scored an effortless win in the Great Northern St. Leger Stakes. Tauloch won by, only a lengttkfrom Blue Seal, but the margin could have been much greater if his rider, W. Hooton, had desired. The other five runners were well beaten, and Rizzio was three lengths and a-half away third. Tauloch started at very short odds. This success broushtxhis earnings to £19,225, of which £14.375 has been secured .this season.
