NEW YORK FASHION SHOW

SEA OF GAY BONNETS Rec. 8 p.m. NEW YORK, Apl. 17. Vast crowds parading slowly up and down to see and be seen had clear blue skies and a mild spring day for their fashion show. Fifth avenue, from Forty-second street to Central Park, was a sea of gay Easter bonnets jammed brim to brim. The crowds were densest near St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and traffic was stalled for blocks around. Flowers, feathers and even gasfilled balloons, festooned the hats. The dresses mainly were simple and dark. Some looked like last spring’s models, but almost every woman had a gaudy new hat. . LONDON. Among the features of what, has been Britain's hottest Easter this century was the placing of glasses of beer alongside the ground for the players at the Folkestone hockey festival, who found the weather uncomfortable for one of the fastest winter games. A Rugby Union player left the field with sunstroke during a* match between London Scottish and West of Scotland at Richmond, in Surrey. To-day was the hottest April day on record in London, the shade temperature rising to 83deg Fahrenheit. EUROPE. Easter sunshine to-day sent Europeans on both sides of the iron curtain streaming from their capitals into the countryside. Parisians, Berliners, and Muscovites packed trams, buses and underground trains to make fhe most of one of the brightest* Easters in Europe’s memory. More than 1,000.000 Parisians spent the week-end in the country or by the sea.

Moscow is undergoing a big spring clean, with hotels and buildings being painted and streets being tided for the May Day celebrations. Berliners from the four sectors spent to-day in woods and sun bathing at the lakes surrounding the city.
