LIFE MEMBERSHIP
FIRE BRIGADES GROUP ELECTION OF MR W. FANNING Special to the Daily Times OAMARU, Apl. 17. In appreciation ol the services rendered by the retiring president, Mr W. Fanning (Bluff) over a long number o£ years, his election to honorary life membership of the Southern Districts Fire Brigades Sub-association of Otago and Southland was announced at the thirty-sixth conference at Oamaru on Friday night. Mr Fanning was also presented with his past president’s badge. Officers elected were:—President: Superintendent A. Hall (Kaitangata); senior vice - president, Fireman J. Maslin (Mataura); junior vice-president, Secretary G. H. Irving (Mosgiel); secretary. Secretary L. O. Wallis (Gore): treasurer, Fireman J. Mitchell (Mosgiel); auditor. Mr L. G. Thomson (Gore). It was agreed to circulate all brigades inviting them to suggest a venue for the conference in 1950. Tributes were paid to the service rendered by Mr H. GirlingButcher, inspector of fire brigades, who is on the eve of retirement. Milton delegates brought up the matter of competitors in demonstrations weighing iri after each event. They considered this unnecessary. It was pointed out that the demonstrations were run under the rules of the United Fire Brigades’ Association, and after discussion the Milton delegates undertook to forward a remit to the annual conference of the association
