OCCUPATION DELAYED
PORTION OF CEDED GERMAN TERRITORY BELGIUM’S ACTION COMMENDED NZPA—Copyright Rec. 8 p.m. BRUSSELS. Apl. 16. Belgium has decided not to occupy for the time being the most densely populated parts of the German territory awarded her by the western occupying Powers along the BelgianGerman frontier. About 4000 Germans in six enclaves to the west of the Raer-Kalterherberg railway line will remain temporarily under German rule as part of the British zone. A communique gave as reasons the present travel restrictions, monetary problems, and cumbersome control measures which would be required. In. Dusseldorf. Mr Karl Arnold, president of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia, said this means that instead of more 1 than 4000 Germans only 500 will come under Belgian sovereignty. Belgium’s gesture was a contribution to the spirit of a new Europe.
