VETERAN FILM ACTOR
DEATH OF WALLACE BEERY NZPA—Copyright Rec. 11 p.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Apl. 16. The death has occurred of Wallace Beery, veteran film actor, at the age of 60 years. Mr Beery, who was born in Kansas City, ran away from home to join a circus, and became an elephant trainer. He was first identified with films as a
female impersonator, and was notable for character roles in “ Big House,” “Hell Divers,” “The Champ,” “Grand Hotel," “ The Good Old Soak,” “ Bad Men of Brimstone,” “ Stable Mates.” and “Sergeant Madden.” He was awarded a gold medal as “ the world s best film actor ” by the International Motion Picture Exposition. in Venice, in 1934, He married Gloria Swanson, from whom he was divorced, and Rita Gilman. the latter marriage also being dissolved.
