MIXED BLOOD
FUTURE NEW ZEALANDERS SIR PETER BUCK’S FORECAST Rec. 10 p.m. HONOLULU, Apl. 17. The New Zealander, Sir Peter Buck, who recently returned from a visit to the Dominion, told an Institute of Pacific Relations meeting that in the future New Zealand would be a mixture of European and Maori blood, combining the best features of each. Sir Peter Buck, who is a noted scientist of Irish and Maori blood, credited the New Zealand Labour Party with many of the striking advances made by the Maori people since he left the Dominion in 1927. He said: “My own Liberal Party was short-sighted and parsimonious, and the Maoris suffered as a result. Since then the Maoris have made incredible strides, for which I credit the Labour Party.” The Swedish Royal Order of' the North Star was recently conferred on Sir Peter Buck. The honour, which is the highest awarded by Sweden to foreign civilians, is given for services to science and literature.
