COLD EASTER
DUNEDIN’S EXPERIENCE LIGHT ACCIDENT LIST. Sporting activities occupied the leisure of the majority of Easter holi-day-makers. and the weather, though overcast, was fine enough for most outdoor sports to be held. Disgruntled comments could be heard anywhere about “ poor holiday weather,” and so on. but most people appeared to relish the fact that they had a break from work and they were prepared to make the most of it.
A pleasing feature of the Easter holidays in Dunedin was the light accident list. A motor cyclist lost his life on Musselburgh rise last night and that was the only accident reported to the police during the Easter vacation. Holiday periods usually bring with them a list of serious accidents, so this Easter in Dunedin has been a welcome change. Visitors to the city, and Residents also, took advantage of the observation tours around the ’Peninsula and more than five full Corporation buses were observed on the Peninsula road yesterday. Motorists consider that the amount of traffic on the road from Highcliff tc Portobt-110 was possibly the heaviest it has ever been. A suggestion was made that if the road continued to gain in popularity, an effort should be made to widen some of the narrow and tortuous bends so as to lessen the possibility of motor accidents. The Otago Golf Provincial Championships began on Friday find will finish to-day. The lawn tennis championships and Rugby football and bowling tournaments were successfully begun and will continue to-day. The yachting season on the Otago Harbour will end to-day, when the North-East Harbour Boating Club sails its last club races for the year. Other races were held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. \ More than 200 people travelled by train to the Beaumont Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday and many attended the meeting by car. Intermittent drizzle at Beaumont, however, made conditions unpleasant.
