£IO,OOO to “The Gang” A Dunedin syndicate which names itself “The Gang,”- has won a prize of £IO,OOO with a ticket in an overseas consultation, according to advice received in the city on Saturday. The fortunate people who used the nom de plume on the winning ticket were not known to the Daily Times last night. Climate Improving “An improving climate," suggested Dr J. A. Pottinger when, at a meeting of the Southland Hospital Board, a query was received from the Department of Health as to the board's reasons for wishing to install refrigerators in country hospitals. “ Have. any circumstances arisen which make refrigerators necessary? ” the department had asked. ~ Warnings to School Children

Official circles in Wellington appear to be slow in recognising Pakistan as a separate State, says a northern paper. In the latest Abstract of Statistics a New Zealand Trade Commissioner is shown for India only, though Pakistan was established more than 18 months ago. Trade figures, too, refer only to India. Dunedin, with 13 days on which rain fell during March, had the largest number of rain days for Otago during the month. Balclutha had 11, Alexandra 10, Oamaru 9, and the Waitaki hydro station 7. The largest total rainfall was, however, at Balclutha, —4.21 inches during the month —but Alexandra led in hours of sunshine, with a total of 204.6 hours. Dunedin had 3.91 inches of rain and 159.2 hours of sunshine; Oamaru had 1.50 inches of rain and 174.1 hours of sunshine; and the Waitaki hydro station had a total rainfall of 1.95 inches during the month. A total of 2.52 inches of rain fell at Alexandra, which also had the highest temperature, 84.1 degrees, and the lowest temperature, 34.3 degrees, for the month. Dunedin's temperatures were: Highest 78.7 degrees,. lowest 37.2 degrees.
