Essay Prizes Presented
The annual prize-giving function for the Scott Memorial Essey Competition, ppstponed from last November, was held at the Waitaki Boys’ High School during the week, when prize-winners in the boys’ section were presented with their prizes. The Rev. .A. Marshall, chairman of the Waitaki High School Boaj-d of Governors, in making the presentations, spoke briefly of the significance of Scott’s Antarctic expedition, and the rector, Mr J. T. Burrows, made reference to Oamaru's particular association with the event. The head prefect read Scott’s last message, and prizes were presented to the following:— Country Section.— M. M. Trotter (formerly of Hampden School), T. Stewardson (Kakanui). Junior High School Section. —V. T. Maffey and R. J. Landon. Function at Girls’ School
The ladv principal, Miss J. B. Wilson, reported at the monthly meeting of the Waitaki High School Board of Governors that the presentatioh of prizes to the winners in the girls’ section had been made by the Rev. A. Marshall at the morning assembly. The prize winners were:— Junior High School.—Christine Allan and Colleen Petrie. Country Section.—Patricia Flemming (Hampden) and Thelma Marwick (Kakanui).
