“ON CREST OF WAVE”

BRITISH SAILORS’ SOCIETY The society was “ on the crest of the wave ” at present and great things were before it, said the Rev. W. A. Stevely, the president, at the annual meeting of the Otago branch of the British Sailors’ Society last night. The past year had been very successful and there were bright prospects fox the coming year. Forty-two overseas ships visited Port Chalmers during the year and considering the other attractions offering in the port, there had been good attendances at the rest there. The rest at Dunedin had also been well patronised and during the year the recreational activities had been increased. During the year the buildings beside the rest at Port Chalmers had been acquired and in time it was hoped to increase the facilities for seamen at the port. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Rev, W. A. Steveley; vice-presidents—Captain T. G. Campbell, Messrs R. H. Stevenson. A. Ibbotson, L. Lor "bottom; the Committee of Manager, * was re-elected with the addition of the Rev. H. O. Bowman. Messrs C. W Waddell, J. Maclean, W. Sellar, G. Lane, G. Russell. S. B Cameron; secretary, Mr D. H. MacLeod; treasurer, Mr P. A. Smith; honorary auditor, Mr D. Lesdlie, jun. During the evening two films were screened showing the work done by the society and several items were presented.
