THIRD LARGEST
DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB FEDERATION OF 400 CLUBS The Dunedin Burns Club is the third largest in the Burns Federation, which is composed of 400 affiliated clubs. The two clubs which have more members than Dunedin are both in Glasgow. This information was given at the annual meeting of the club last night by a vicepresident Mr W. J. Oliver. Mr Oliver took the chair in place of the president, Mr W. Brown, who is visiting Scotland. The membership of the club for 1948 was 535. The support given the monthly concerts was good, Mr Oliver said, but a small financial loss had resulted from the presentation of the Hallowe'en concert in November. This was due to high production costs. The concert cost £369 to produce. The Mayor, Sir Donald Cameron, who is a member of the committee, spoke of his impending trip to Edinburgh. Mr W. J. Oliver was elected president, and Mr E. Hastie replaced him as a vicepresident. Messrs A. MacDonald and J. Brunton were added to the committee, and Mr Hastie was deleted. All other office-bearers were re-elected.
