YOUNG MEN CHARGED

COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE Pleading guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to charges of indecent assault on males, Ronald Albert Vickers, a cook, a|ed 20, and lan Alexander Walker, a clerk, aged 20, of Mosgiel, were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Evidence was given by Harold Robert Wales and Cedric Ralph Hamilton, both sailors in the RNZN, of aqts carried out by Vickers in the Queen’s Gardens on March 25. Similar evidence was given by John Alexander Holding, a stoker mechanic, who was assaulted by Walker. Constable G. McAlevey and Sergeant C. E. Black described the arrests which were made on the Victoria wharf, after complaints had been received from one of the sailors. . , The case for the police was conducted b.v Detective Sergeant M. Remanded to Roxburgh Remands until April 11 were granted in the case of Charles Herbert Champion alias Carter, and William Henry Robins, both labourers, of Coal Creek, who were charged with assaulting Horace Leslie Cooper so as to cause him bodily harm. Senior Sergeant Vaughan, asking for the remand, said the hearing would be held at Roxburgh. , , Mr Guest, who appeared for both defendants, asked for bail, and this was allowed in the sum of £25 each, with sureties of £25. A further condition was that the defendants were to report daily to the police.
