WEATHER RESTRICTS WORK AT RICCARTON

Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 28. None of the tracks at Riccarton were available to the trainers this morning. The sand has been closed for some time, as it is being repaired, while the stormy weather over the week-end has put the plough out of action. Light exercise in the centre was all that could be done by the horses that were taken to the course. i The local apprentice N. Eastwood went to Invercargill to ride at the Birchwood Hunt meeting on Saturday, but he returned from his fruitless trip this morning, as the meeting was abandoned on account of unfavourable weather. He has some rides waiting for him if he goes back for the Otautau and Riverton meetings, but at present it seems unlikely that he will make another trip- south. C G. Humphries will go north to-mor-row with Royal Tan, who is booked to race in the Awapuni Gold Cup on Saturday. He will be ridden by C. McDonald, while C. T. Wilson will be on King’s Ransom in the same race. Arctic Circle, from the team of C. G. Humphries, will do hi s Easter racing in Hawke’s Bay. He is being prepared for the Duke of Gloucester Cup at the Waipukurau meeting, where he will be ridden by his owner’s son, Mr John Hall. Easter racing plans appear to be uncertain with several southern trainers. Horses with engagements at Riccarton and also at Riverton include Frances, The Grate, The Hob, Excellency, Full Play. Spare Part, Sir Garnish and Salmon Spear.
