“ACID BATH ” MURDERS
INQUIRIES EXTENDED TO MELBOURNE MELBOURNE, Mar. 25. At the request of Scotland Yard, Melbourne detectives are now engaged on inquiries concerning the “ acid bath” murders in England. They are examining clothing and other articles given last year to Miss Margaret Patricia Moran, aged 24, formerly a domestic of Onslow Court, London, by John George Haigh, the company director, who has been charged with the murder of a wealthy London widow, Mrs Durand Deacon. Miss Moran arrived in Australia on January 11. She said she had received the gifts early last year, when Haigh had a number of trunks and cases in his room at Onslow Court and was sorting the property in them. The gifts, which she has handed to the police, comprised a woman’s jumper, which she said showed signs of wear when Haigh gave it to her, a woman’s brooch, a photograph of Haigh, and two leather wallets. Miss Moran said one wallet contained a small passport-type photograph of a middle-aged man whom she believes Scotland Yard was seeking.
