SALE BY AUCTION LEMONS RATIONED TO RETAILERS A consignment of Island bananas arrived at the Dunedin fruit markets during the week, but because of their poor condition they were sold by auction. Dunn’s Favourite cooking apples are •coming forward, and are meeting with a steady demand. Jonathans and a few Cleopatras are also coming to hand. Cox’s Orange are almost finished for the season. Pears are in plentiful supply. Peaches, nectarines, and dessert plums have a good inquiry, and prices are m growers' favour. Heavy consignments of outside-grown tomatoes, mostly from Central Otago, arrived during the week, and prices for inferior grades are low'. There is a steady demand for grapes, cucumbers, and passion fruit, but quinces are slow of sale. Mushrooms of choice quality are realising good prices. A few lemons came to hand, and were rationed to retailers. Good supplies of pumpkins and marrow's had a steady sale. Cabbages and cauliflowers are short of requirements, and prices are firm.
