SALE BY AUCTION LEMONS RATIONED TO RETAILERS A consignment of Island bananas arrived at the Dunedin fruit markets during the week, but because of their poor condition they were sold by auction. Dunn’s Favourite cooking apples are •coming forward, and are meeting with a steady demand. Jonathans and a few Cleopatras are also coming to hand. Cox’s Orange are almost finished for the season. Pears are in plentiful supply. Peaches, nectarines, and dessert plums have a good inquiry, and prices are m growers' favour. Heavy consignments of outside-grown tomatoes, mostly from Central Otago, arrived during the week, and prices for inferior grades are low'. There is a steady demand for grapes, cucumbers, and passion fruit, but quinces are slow of sale. Mushrooms of choice quality are realising good prices. A few lemons came to hand, and were rationed to retailers. Good supplies of pumpkins and marrow's had a steady sale. Cabbages and cauliflowers are short of requirements, and prices are firm. Beans are selling well, but prices for peas were low at the end of the week. Range of Prices New Zealand lemons: Town, 255; country, 245; cases extra. Nectarines, Is to Is 3d lb; cases, 15s to 20s. Apples: Cookers, 9s to 12s. cases extra; Jonathan, 10s 3d to 12s 9d. Corn cob, 4s a case. Passion fruit, 15s a case. Quinces, 4s a case. Pears: All varieties, 18s 9d and 7s 6d; cases extra. Peaches: Trays, 9d to lOd lb; cases, 10s to 12s 6d. Plums: Trays, 8d to is; cases, 8s 6d to 12s; jam, 6s a case. Grapes. 2s 6d to 3s lb. Tomatoes: Kakanui, lOd to Is 3d lb; Nelson, 10s to 12s case; Christchurch, 6d to 8d lb; hothouse, Is lb; Central Otago, 3d to 6d lb. Cucumbers: Hothouse, 6d to Is each; outside grown, cases, 8s 6d to 10s. Lettuce: Choice, 2s 6d dozen; others. Is. Carrots, 2jd lb. Cabbage. 6s to 7s a sack. Beet, 3s dozen bunches. Rhubarb. Id lb.
