A DANGEROUS PRACTICE

Sir,—With memories of a tragedy which occurred a few years ago, when a lad cycling round the Marine parade, Oamaru, went over the bank and was killed, I was shocked to see on Anniversary Day half a dozen boys wearing Waltaki High School caps cycling round this narrow footpath, which has several acute bends, in single file. The extreme danger to the boys themselves—a drop of some 50 feet on the rocks on one hand and a precipitous hillside on the other—needs no elaboration. A further danger attending such a foolhardy practice Is the risk to pedestrians, who" making use of this delightful walk, might meet lads on bicycles at sharp bends. I think it only necessary to remind schoolmasters and parents of their duty in warning boys against taking their lives in their hands.—l am. etc., Oamaru. March 23. Pedestrian.
