IMMIGRATION POSSIBILITIES TALKS WITH GOVERNMENT PA AUCKLAND, Mar. 23. An . Australian diplomat. Majorgeneral C. E. M. Lloyd, C.8.E., has arrived in Auckland by flying boat. He is representing the International Refugee Organisation and will discuss with the Government matters concerning immigration with particular reference to displaced persons. “I hope to come here frequently in future,” said Major-general Lloyd. On this occasion he will be in New Zealand for about a week In March, 1942, General Lloyd, aged 42, was the youngest man ever to reach a general’s rank in the Australian army. He is an artillery specialist and graduated at the staff college in England in 1933. He was General Moorhead’s chief staff Officer during the siege of Tobruk and later was posted to General Wavell’s staff. In 1946, together with another majorgeneral, he refused an appointment to lead an Australian military mission to Washington because of insufficient salary and allowances and retired from the military forces.
