TWO NEW TRUSTS
ASHBURTON AND GERALDINE Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, Mar. 10. The popularity of Invercargill’s licensing trust is held the chief reason for the vote in favour of the trust control of liquor in the Geraldine and Ashburton districts. The electors’ decision in those areas will mean that two new licensing trusts will be set up by legislation to be enacted later in the year. This will make a total of four licensing trusts, Masterton having recently established trust control in consequence of the decision at the last triennial poll to restore liquor in that district. The sponsors of trust control, who have firm support within the Labour movement, hope to see the trust system widely extended when the redistribution of licences takes place under the licensing authority to be set up in accordance with the legislation enacted last year.
