QUEENSTOWN
PROGRESS LEAGUE At the monthly meeting of the Queenstown Progress League, a letter was received from the Queenstown Borough Council commending the Beautifying Committee of the league on its willingness to subsidise the work of grading Athol street and the suggestion to plant an avenue of trees in the street. The council stated that the Works Committee would like to discuss the suggestion with the league, and it was decided that the president. Mr J. McDonald, and Messrs Warren and Wilder confer with the committee about Athol street and other improvements in the town. The president reported that Mr L. J. Schmitt, general manager of the Tourist Department, visited Queenstown recently and investigated the matter of building swimming baths in the Tourist Domain. He was favourably impressed with the possibilities of the project, and in view of such a valuable amenity in the town, suggested that if the residents of Queens-
town would raise £IOOO towards the construction of baths, the Tourist Department would prosecute the work in the near future. Mr McDonald said he had viewed the proposed site with the Mayor, Dr W. A. Anderson. The league viewed the proposal in a favourable light and discussed various ways of raising money. The matter, nowever, was held in abeyance pending formal advice from the Tourist Department when a special meeting will be called for the purpose of taking the necessary steps in
collaboration with the Borough Council?; It was decided to extend the date of clo*»: ing the league's raffle in aid of funds its;:: March 19 and make the draw for prises, on March 31. s§B M PEOPLE who have things to sell or iipi? looking for something they want to bUf= read the Otago Daily Times.
