Reports and Recommendations The following committee reports and recommendations will come before the monthly mee'Vg of the Oamaru Borough Council to-night:— Finance. —Recommends that a grant of £lO be made towards the transport for the proposed staff picnic; that the advice from the borough solicitor that the loans poll would have to be held on February 24 because of a newspaper error be received. Town Hall.— Recommends that no action be taken in the purchasing of a new Electrolux as the present one wms considered to be in good order; that the engineer’s report on the condition of the fire escape be received and that temporary repairs be effected, the engineer to obtain designs and prices for a metal one. By-laws— Recommends that the letter from the Oamaru Chamber of Commerce with reference to street day collections be received and that the chamber be advised that each application would be dealt with on its merits. Works.—Recommends that the Oamaru Harbour Board be advised that the council could not undertake any major expenditure in the present financial year in order to abate storm-water nuisance on the board’s property at Friendly Bay, but, in the event of flooding, any residue deposited on. the board’s property from this source would be removed; that the engineer's recommendation that the tender of Andrews artd Beaven for the supply of one tar sprayer be adopted. Reserves.—Recommends that the lighting scheme at Takaro Park as outlined m a letter from the engineer of the Waitaki Electric Power Board be proceeded with, provided the promised contributions, amounting to £IOO, were confirmed; that the architect’s estimate for the reglazing, repairing, painting ,and .renovating of the fernerv in the Gardens be considered with the 1949-50 estimates; that the tender of the National Mortgage to supply a mower be accepted. Abattoir.—Recommends that the engineer furnish an estimated cost for the work of providing an unloading bank. Baths. —Recommends that the Aragowan School be granted the use of the baths on Tuesday and Friday m each week between 1.30 and 2.30 p.m.; that the request from the Swimming Club for the provision of a new low diving stand be granted and that the engineer be authorised to erect it.
