DRY CONDITIONS

Good Rain Needed North Otago has experienced dry conditions this week with some very high winds, which have left the country fairly dry. Notwithstanding, the district is looking fairly well, but could now do with a good ram. Wheat. —The new wheat crops are looking well, but here again a good ram would materially add to the subsequent yields. The high winds this week do not appear to have done much damage. Oats.—Stocks ip store are very low and new season’s harvest will come to a bare market. If the present conditions continue, some Algerian crops will harvest before the end of the year. Indications are* that the Algerian oat crops will be light, as the spring was too dry after they were eaten off. Seeds.—Both the wholesale and retail demand has eased off, and except for some retail business there twill be very little business passing until the next season’s harvest arrives. If good rains do not come shortly it is possible that stock may be turned in on some of the clover crops. A good rain would change the complexion of. things very much in the near future.
