FIREWORKS DISPLAY

HARBOUR MOST SUITABLE “There is no doubt that the best place for a fireworks display would be the harbour,” said the chairman, Mr W. R. Clarke, when a letter from the town clerk advising of a proposal to hold an aerial fireworks display at the time of the royal visit, and asking the board’s permission and assistance, came before last evening’s meeting of the Otago Harbour Board. “Everybody would be able to see a .display on the harbour. I think we should do all we can in the way of supplying a barge.” The necessity for considering the safety of the harbour and shipping was stressed by Mr A. Mcßae. “I think the Vauxhall area would be most suitable if the wind is favourable,” he said, Mr Clarke stated that the selection of a suitable location would be a matter for the harbourmaster to decide, practically at the eleventh hour. It was decided that all reasonable assistance should be given to the proposal.
