FIRE PRECAUTIONS
HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE RECOMMENDATION TO CITY COUNCIL A recommendation that the town clerk, Mr R. A. Johnston, should be authorised to serve notice on Kerridge and Odeon, of Auckland, requiring them to carry out certain alterations to His Majesty’s Theatre in terms of a by-law is contained in a report by the General Committee which will be brought before the City Council on Monday night. The alterations, which the committee recommends should be carried out within two months of the receipt of t&e notice, are to provide an altejtiative means of egress from the circle of the theatre, preferably in the direction of the proscenium, and to close permanently with fire-resisting materials all the door and window openings in the dividing wall between the lounge of tsse theatre and the adjoining premises now occupied by a manufacturing company. The report of the committee states that advice of these requirements was given to the owners in April of this year, but so far no steps had been taken to comply with the reauest. It was desirable that the work should be completed before the re-licensing of His Majesty’s Theatre in January next.
