MANIOTOTO Special to the Daily Times RANFURLY, Oct. 31. Cricket The Maniototo Cricket Sub-association’s 1948-49 competition opened., yesterday. Creditable first-of-season performances were given by L. Smith, of the Naseby Club, who scored a century, and by W Becker, Oturehua, who made 83 and completed a fine double by taking eight wickets for 30 runs. Playing at Naseby, the home team retained the Greer Cup by beating Ranfurly B by 263 to 90 For Naseby, L. Smith, 110 not out, was the top scorer, E. R. Klitscher made 50, L. Provan 32, D. Provan 20, and Nelson 28. Bowling for Ranfurly, J. Watson took four wickets for 60, O. Lynch two for 37. and D. Provan two for 48. O. Lynch scored 53 runs for Ranfurly, in whose innings I. Inder captured two wickets for no runs and Evans three for 13. Other matches resulted;— Oturehua, 204 for four wickets declared (W. Becker 83. J. Anderson 48, J. Lott 27 not out and R. McKnight 26; F. Mee two for 70, M. Mee one for 32, J. Mee one for 6), Becks 143 (J. Clouston 47. S. Harley 33, A. Harrex 27; W. Becker eight for 30, R. McKnight two for 56). Patearoa 230 (J. D. Blakely 63 J. W Blakelv 33, B. Andrews 28, W. McAtamney 22 not out; R. Paterson three for 24, R. Todd two for 70). Hyde 81 (S. Berkley 33; J. W. Blakely five for 28, J. D. Blakely two for 10).
