PUBLIC HOLIDAY

APPLICATION TO BE MADE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW DAY The decision to make application for a public and school holiday on People’s Day, December 1, when the Minister of Agriculture would officially open the South Island Championship Show at Tahuna Park, was made at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society on Thursday. In support of the decision it was stated that the show would be the most important ever held in Dunedin and the Centennial Cavalcade of Agriculture would be an event of historical importance in Otago. It was noted that there was already a large number of early entries to hand and that the large number of exhibits would tax the accommodation to the limit.

The new cattle pavilion at Tahuna was almost completed, it was reported, and the roofs of the loose boxes and pig pens had been painted aluminium. Mr R. Fortune's offer to give a display at evening entertainments with his six sheep dogs working together was accepted.
