AGANEV PLEASES IN FINAL TRIALS AT INVERCARGILL

Special to the Daily Times INVERCARGILL, Oct. 21. Sound mile trials by Aganev, Salmon Spear and The Turk were the features of the final trials of Gore candidates at Invercargill this morning. The track was cutting up after heavy rain during the week and frequent showers during the training period. The course proper, with the poles 40 feet out, was open, but the going was slow and fast times were out of the question. The best sprint task of the morning was credited to Doulton and Haughty Dick. Geisha Girl took lmin 12sec to run five furlongs, the last four in 58 l-ssec. On his own Walcoe ran six furlongs in lmin 28 2-ssec, the last half in 59 4-ssec. Waiau King pleased greatly by the manner in which he completed a mile in lmin 55 4-ssec, the last four in 57 2-ssec. He bears a greatly improved appearance. Gunther jumped away from the mile post and after being joined by the Sir Simper—Wild Erin gelding at the five he completed the mile in lmin 54 4-ssec, the last half in 56 2-ssec. Gunther promises to be a serious contender in the Wendon High-weight. Grand Hit and Jump Off took 55 2-ssec for half a mile after running the first two in 26sec. On her own Ensemble sprinted five furlongs in lmin lOsec, the last four in 56 3- She appears better suited on firm going. Beaugard and Winlowe shaped well in running six furlongs in lmin 24 2-ssec the last half in 58sec. Shadamai’s Progress Shadamai and Anzora were together at the end of five furlongs in lmin 10 4- the final four in 56 2-ssec. Shadamai continues to please in his work. From a barrier start Elmwood led Fluorescent Light and Castlebar to the three-furlong post in 40sec, the first two in 26 2-ssec. , . Desert Girl Doubtful Desert Girl and Heroic Girl completed five furlongs in lmin 11 2-ssec. the last half in 58sec. Both have been taken along quietly in their work, but Desert Girl has been showing signs of soreness off and on. Spare Part was let off with an easy round. His reappearance at Gore will depend on the state of the track conditions. Doulton and Haughty Dick recorded the best five furlongs of the morning in running lmin 9 2-ssec, the last four in 50 2-ssec. Haughty Dick appeared to be doing the better. Aganev impressed greatly by the manner in which she ran out a mile In her own in lmin 54 2-ssec, the last six in lmin 25sec, and the last half in 56 3-ssec. She was doing her work well within herself and she handled the heavy track better than any worker during the morning. If she could be induced to race up to her track work she would make matters interesting in the Members* Handicap at Gore. Salma Royal and Lakeland took lmin 12 4-ssec to run five, the last four in 58 4-ssec. Riding Engagements Additional riding engagements include: K. E. Wilson, The Turk (Wendon Highweight); J. M. Cappie—Aganev, Luminous Knight, 'Orthodox, Royal Lark, Fluorescent Light; W. Hillis, Gunther; D. Tressider—Salmon Spear, Anzora, Haughty Dick, Shadamai. ' W. F. Ellis returned to Wellington today and he will ride Excellency, Revivre and Bobby Dazzler on the second day at Trentham. Ellis will return for the second day of the Gore meeting.
