SMART SPRINTS AT RICCARTON

There were some very fast sprints on the trial grass track at Riccarton. A north-west wind assisted the horses to make time in the run home, while they had some shelter along the back. Revolte reeled off a mile in lmin 42 l-ssec. the first half in 50 l-ssec, and he did his work very well. Lexia, in receipt of weight, was half a length in front of General Argosy in lmin 43 3-ssec, done at an even pace. Highway worked alone, and was timed only for the last half-mile in 49sec.
Assault again went well to beat Golden Air over seven furlongs in lmin 27 2-ssec, the last four in 49 l-ssec. Terminate and Conclusion were on terms in lmin 28 4-ssec, the last half-mile in 50 2-ssec. Peridot shaded Idle Jest in lmin 29 3-ssec, coming home in 49 3-ssec, while Screw Picket equalled that time in beating precipitate, finishing up in 48 2-ssec. Big Top was much too good for Minerva and Dark Game, the time being lmin 30 4-ssec. Blue Print, whose saddle slipped, took lmin 31sec.
Beaugency registered lmin 14sec for six furlongs, the last half-mile done nicely in 50sec.
Theocritus broke away from the fivefurlong post three lengths in front of Kirkella, who was" less than a length behind his mate at the finish, though never looking like a winner. Klrkella's time was lmin 0 4-ssec, his last half-mile being done in 47 4-ssec. Night Lap was a head in front of Valley Gold, with Gold Medallion beaten off, in lmin 2 2-ssec, the last four in 48 4-ssec. Robin Redbreast, with a light weight, was a neck in front of Trident in lmin 3sec, the last four in 49 3-ssec. Two West Coast horses did the best times in half-mile sprints, Sitology being six lengths clear of Chaka in 46 2-ssec, while Queen’s General ran away from Red Convoy and Mystic Form in 46 3-ssec. Infatuate registered 47 2-ssec, Heather Flight 47 3-ssec, Ernborough 48sec, Soar and Faithful Pal 48 l-ssec, while Profane and Beau Soir took 50 2-ssec, gding easily. A few horses worked on the plough. Wide Range did six furlongs in lmin 15 2-ssec, after showing a lot of speed early, while Banshee outstayed Good Shot in lmin 18 4-ssec Disturbance ran five furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec, the last four in 50see, and All’s Fair beat Leigh Note by a length in lmin 3 3-ssec. Hatrack and Tarmac did half a mile in 49 4-ssec, Peda» taking 50sec, while Vitamin registered 51 l-ssec in beating Irish Peach, who was not doing his best.
