STRIKES DENOUNCED

MR CHIFLEY SPEAKS TO TRADE UNIONISTS Rec. 9 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. In the Trades Hall the Prime Minister, Mr J. B. Chifley, told 140 delegates of the Federal Trades Unions that their first task was to increase production. He added that he did not always see why men went on strike and that some strikes were a disgrace to the trade union movement. “ There are many difficulties and grievances in a union from time to time,” he said. “I repeat to-day that I think it is a disgrace to the trade union movement that when there are differences between unions they cannot find some way of settling disputes without depriving the community of essential things.”
