SABOTAGE ATTEMPT
AIRLINERS REFUELLING AT DARWIN SAND IN STORAGE TANK N.Z.P.A.—Copyright Rec. 10 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. The police have found water, sand and grass in a' petrol storage tank which serves passenger planes at Darwin. The authorities consider that the interference with the tank was an attempt to sabotage airliners refuelling at Darwin as it would be impossible for the sand to have got into the tank accidentally. Northern Territory police are guarding the aerodrome and all fuel going into planes is being double chccksd The police found that 60 gallons of water and 21b of sand had been dumped in a 1000-gallon tank belonging to Qanlas Empire Airways. The fuel had a reddish tinge, whereas aviation fuel is normally bluish green. The addition of a chemical is suspected and\the fuel will be analysed.
