CHAIRMAN HONOURED
HARBOURS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE BIRTHDAY CONGRATULATIONS A social function in the R.S.A. last night marked the close of the annual conference of the Harbours Association of New Zealand. Delegates were welcomed by Mr W. R. Clarke, chairman of the Otago Harbour Board. The guest of honour was the president of the association, Mr W. H. Price, who was congratulated by delegates on reaching his seventy-sixth birthday. Tributes were paid to the work of Mr Price during his long association with shipping in New Zealand and with harbour board matters and he was described as having left his mark on all the shipping interests with which he had been connected. Mr Price was presented with a specially-bound edition of A. H. Reed’s “Story of Otago.” After performing the yeoman feat of blowing out all the 76 candles on his birthday cake with one breath, as tradition demands, Mr Price expressed his thanks. He said that it gave him particular pleasure to be in the town of his birth on the occasion of his seventy-sixth anniversary and that this, his most recent visit-, had confirmed the long-standing opinion that Dunedin was the most beautiful city in the country.
