Galloping As Means Of Training Pacers

During the week a surprisingly large number of visiting horses exercised at Forbury Park have been worked at a strong gallop for several rounds. Time was when trainers looked askance at this method of, training trotters and pacers, but it would seem that it is growing in favour. Horses appreciate a change from the regular routine, just as human beings do, and a change of gait in their work can be placed under this heading. A rousing gallop will also bring a -horse into racing condition more quickly than long jogging work. Some trainers take their charges to the track morning after morning without apparently realising the value of an occasional change to hil l work or swimming exercise. Jottings Withdrawals for the Oamaru meeting are due on Monday. The Wrack mare Buncrana is now on a mark from which she will find it hard to win. In Good Form Voco Power came through his racing last Saturday in good style and he should add interest to the running of the Churchill Handicap to-day.

More than Useful The Gallant Knight three-year-old Black Diamond is more than useful, and he shows every promise of stepping his way into better company before long. Win Overdue Quite Hanpy had 11 starts last season for a second and a fourth, and this season he has started six times without reaching a place. His last win was scored at the New Brighton meeting in December of 1946. Trotted Solidly Mack Sure trotted a solid race to reach a place in the Bayfield Handicap last Saturday, and his steadiness may carry him into a place in the Tahuna Handicap to-day. At Geraldine Grandeur won two of his three races last season, the Hagedorn Handicap, of one mile and a-quarter, at Westport, and the Ikamatua Handicap, of one mile and a-half, at Reefton. Trained by G. Cameron at New Brighton, Grandeur is a six-year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Golden Air, and he is engaged at the Geraldine meeting to-day. Trotting at Oamaru, Labour Day, Monday, October 25. The sporting outing of tlie year. Be there.—Advt.
