SCOUTING AFFAIRS
Permission has been granted to the following troops to hold Labour Day week-end camps.—Teaneraki at Maruakoa, Weston at Weston, Columba at Glencoe. Dates for Gilwell courses at Tatum are:—Scout, December 27 to January 4; Cub, January 5 to January 11; Rovers, January 5 and 6. Entry forms may be obtained from the commissioner. Entries from Scouters and lady Cubmasters for the Australian jamboree close this week, and for Scouts on October 26. On October 27 a special committee meeting will be held to consider the applications. The Enfield recently held a successful 11 bottle drive,” and the Maheno Troop held a bring-and-buy sale and picture show with good results’. The Highland Troop will hold a bring-and-buy sale this afternoon. Advice has teen received that the Oamaru Rover Crew has been officially registered. Emblems for long service decorations have been received for Scouters’Disteel (Special School) and W. R. Rush (“Renown,” Maheno). The detailed itinerary of Lord Rowallan’s New Zealand tour 'have been received, and during his visit to Oamaru on January 31 it is hoped to have a rally of Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies.
A successful social evening was held on Wednesday to do honour to Cubmasters Pinder and Kemp on the eve of their marriages. Mr C. Daniel, who was in the chair, made presentations to both guests on behalf of those present. Commissioner Widdowson thanked both for their services to Scouting.
Troops are reminded to meet at the Reservoir to-day at 1.30 p.m. to trim trees. Rovers are also asked to assist.
The following Rover Squires were invested this week as Rovers of the Oamaru Crew:—S. P. Lord, J. McNulty and J. M. Macaulay.
