DRY CONDITIONS
CROPS NEED RAIN
North Otago is still on the dry side. About 12 points of rain fell during the week, but a really good rain is badly needed, especially for the crops. Wheat.—There will be no more wheat sown this season. The new crops would be the better for an inch of rain. Stocks in store are sufficient for requirements. Oats.—The demand from the North Island continues, but merchants have very little to offer. The sowing of white oats is about completed. Stores are practically bare of stocks Chaff.—A few lines are on offer, and available for shipment to the North Island, but the demand’has fallen off. Seeds.—Both the wholesale and retail demand has been quiet this week, and it is expected that the retail inquiry will improve when the sowing of rape commences. As there has been a good lambing under good conditions, there should he a big sowing of rape seed this season. Chou Mollier is also populaf. and English seed to supply the shortage is due to arrive in New Zealand this month. A good rain would stimulate the demand for all small seeds
