BAN CONTEST Keen interest is being shown in the band contest to be held at Alexandra on November 13 and 14, and all bands are reported to be practising most assiduously. Tire following bands will take part in the- contest:—B Grade: Oamaru Garrison, Mosgiel Municipal, Caversham Citizens’. C Grade: Port Chalmers Marine, Alexandra Municipal, Dunedin Ladies’ Brass, Southern Regiment Boys. CRICKET CLUB The official opening of the Excelsior Cricket Club was held on Saturday. During Labour week-end the club will visit the North-East Valley and Kaikorai Clubs. FRY TO BE LIBERATED The Otago Acclimatisation Society has advised that they are liberating 90,000 fry in the Fraser River within the next few weeks. Before the fry are liberated the Alexandra Angling Club have proposed to hold a shag drive to clear the area. PERSONAL The Rev. J. W. Ringer, a missionary from India, is on a visit to Alexandra. The Mayor, Mr G. IL Fox, is attending the local bodies’ conference at Westport.
