BALCLUTHA STOCK SALE

BALCLUTHA, Oct. 15,

The fortnightly stock sale was held yesterday, and attracted a yarding of 223 fat sheep and 1194 store sheep, the latter entry comprising mostly ewes and lambs of medium quality. A feature of the sale was the larger yarding of store cattle, 112 head being yarded. These comprised 'mostly two and three-year-old goodcoloured steers in good condition. Competition for all classes of sheep was sound, but in the store cattle section the bidding was slow and late rates were hardly maintained. Quotations:— Fat Sheep.—Prime woolly wethers made 63s 6d to 695; medium, 55s to 57s 6d; extra prime shorn wethers, 67s to 68s; prime woolly ewes, 57s 6d to 61s 6d; medium, 50s; light and unfinished, 31s to 37s 6d; heavy shorn ewes, 56s to 58s; medium, 46s to 49s 6d; two and four-tooth shorn ewes, 61s 6d. Store Sheep.—Fat and forward crossbred ewes, with lambs at foot, 26s 2d to 295; medium conditioned Romney cross ewes, with extra good Southdown lambs at foot, 30s 2d; medium ewe hoggets in wool, 49s to 50s 6d; good wether hoggets in wool, 50s 9d to 53s 3d; medium, 46s to 47s 6d; shorn wether hoggets, 30s 6d to 35s 6d. Fat Cattle.—Prime heifers, to £l9 15s; light, £l2; prime cows, to £l9; medium, £l4 10 s to £l6. Store Cattle.— I Three-year-old fat and forward Black Polled bullocks, £22 10s; medium conditioned, £l6 2s 6d to £l7; light conditioned two and three-year-old steers. £l3; good-conditioned three-year-old Black Polled steer,s £l3 10s; one and a-half to two-year-old steers, £9 10s to £ll 15s.
