SUBSIDY APPROVED
SCHOLARSHIP FUND FOR MAORIS P.A. WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. The Minister of Education, Mr McCombs, chairman of he Ngarimu V.C. and 28th Maori Battalion Scholarship Fund Board, announced to-day that the Government had approved the payment of a subsidy of £14,000 on moneys already raised for the fund. The Minister stated that there had been a wide response to the, appeal for donations to the fund and there was at present £14,600 in hand, while further sums amounting to £3OOO were expected shortly. The Minister stated that from the moneys now in hand it was intended to provide scholarships for Maori pupils as from the beginning of the next school year. Details concerning the scholarships would be announced shortly.
