SEAMAN DENIES CHARGE COMMITTED FOR TRIAL P.A. AUCKLAND, Oct. 15. John Cashman, aged 37, a seaman, was charged before justices in the Police Court with stealing £4O, the property of Keith Austin Knight and, alternatively, with stealing a billfold containing £245. an airways ticket, and a Tattersall’s ticket, of a total value of £248 Is 6d, belonging to Knight. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial. . . Knight said the money went missing on the night of October 7, when he was staying at an Auckland hotel, where Cashman was also a guest. The police later found four £lO notes in the possession of Cashman. It was stated that their numbers corresponded with those of the missing notes.
